Day 2 May 8, 2011 Conception Bay to Trans-Canada Trail

Day 2!

Today was run almost exclusively on the old railway line that used to house the Newfie Bullet. Mike ran with me for the first 20km, along the water, around smokestacks and ending with a bullet-ridden harbour seal.

Still trying to iron out some of the kinks. I’m starting to get the hang of things although we still managed to run out of water, had to settle with hot dogs for lunch, and my face managed to get sun burnt despite all the fog.

Sarah ran the entire second 20km up and down the steep Newfie hills despite not having run in months. Incredible. I’ve been following Google Maps walking route the past two days in order to find the shortest route through Newfoundland but it appears that Google has a different idea of what actually constitutes a route. Today Sarah and I found ourselves running up along a creek in the middle of the Newfoundland wilderness where Google had us on a road. Google Maps may not be the best way to do this. I guess I’ll have to wait and see how things go.

About halfway through Newfoundland with 80km done and just 70km left to go before we head to Nova Scotia!
